(1984)
In the five million years it took for us to become bipeds, we lost a connection with our primordial selves. In this performance, in the persona of a man, I roll, slither, crawl on all fours, squat, and take the audience through the various stages of our biological evolution. When I arrive at bipedal-dom, I find myself in an office with the boss telling me “You’re late.” The idea of being defeated by time, and credence being given to the authority of the 24 hour clock, inhibits this “man” from expressing his desire – to dress up in women’s clothes. In overcoming this impediment, the office man loses a sense of identity, and finds himself living a poetic, polymorphic life – one where he recovers a sense of his primordial state, and returns to the wildness of his hermaphroditic origins.
